The diversity of canines and their ability to bond with their owners through affection and play are primary attractions to many people. A dog has its own unique character and choosing a toy that best suits your pooch’s personality is extremely valuable to your bonding experience. Unfortunately, indestructible dog toys are impossible to find but some toys are much better than others and need to be replaced less often. These products are readily available from reputable online pet retailers. There are four main types of behaviour that dogs exhibit, and four groups of dog toys that are designed to encourage these.
Tug of war
This play requires something tough enough to withstand the efforts of your dog for as long as possible. Heavily stitched canvas toys and strong rope toys tend to be the best. Try some brightly coloured animated toys if you want something more interesting-looking.
Chewing
Chewing is a common problem for numerous dog owners. Save your favourite pair of shoes or Sunday newspaper from your playful pooch by investing in a chew-toy to divert his attention. Particularly good ones for this are made of very tough rubber and can be filled with treats to encourage longer play with the added bonus of a delicious chewable treat.
Chase and retrieve
Tennis balls are great for this type of activity. They are cheap to buy and are easy for most dog owners to throw to a great distance. A ball-thrower is a great invention and allows you send a ball flying further than normal and allows you to avoid picking up a slimy tennis ball.
Pounce and shake
This type of activity is a variation on tug of war although it is more of a solo game. Your doggy jumps onto a toy, flings it around and then drops it. Squeaky rope toys are great for this as the sound keeps your pooch motivated for longer.
